Assignment

The objective was to find a solution to a problem a chosen user group is facing. Our team chose children with a fear of needles. We want them to have a safe experience in the face of needles to prevent anxiety against health institutions.
Research

20 - 30 percent have a fear of needles among adults. The origin of the fear often comes from bad experiences with vaccinations and other needles during childhood.
We talked to a children's nurse who informed us that waiting before the shot is the worst part for the children. They also spend much time calming them down before the shot.
We also talked to a psychologist who said that a reward system is very powerful.
Result
With the research in mind we came up with a printer called
Picasso
Picasso prints out bandaids the children draw themselves. It distracts them in the waiting room, making sure they have something active and creative to do and think about instead.
When they are done with the shot, they get their bandaid as a reward!

In the waiting room, the children draw their own design.
After taking the shot, they will get their personalized bandaid.
